History, Evolution and Development of Computer
Thursday, January 31st, 2008ankit asked:
The evolution of computers goes long back ago and its very interesting as well as quite important for understanding the working of computer.
Long back about 4ooB.c first every computing instrument was developed which can add and subtract. graduaklly afterwards there was importance of an computing instrument. pascal first computer came in 1642and other scientist loike napiers and leibnitz done significant work in this field which eventually led to present day computer. MARK-1 was the first modern computer. British mathematician AUGUSTA ADA BYRON was the first ever programmer. BASIC was introduced in 1965. IBM pc was introduced in 1981. First graphical computer “MAC” came in 1984 and microsoft was introduced in 1985. windows 3.1 become most popular in 1992 bthe first general computer was ENIAC( ELECTRONIC NUMERICAL INTEGRATOR AND CALCULATOR). JOHN VON NEUMAN gave the concept of stored program.
COMPUTER GENERATIONS:-
1st GENERATION:- It started in 1950 with appearance of UNIVAC-1. in this generation vacuum tubes were used, and there memory were made of thin tubes of liquid mercury and magnetic drums. computer uses the stored program concept in this period. the idea was to store the program in separate memory but since the vacuum tubes were very costly so it discouraged the manufacturers to use it and instead they electrostatic memories. the speed of this age of computers was very slow as compared today and size was very large(about two rooms) also it required large cooling towers as there was lot of heat produced by vacuum tubes. the cost was so high that it was almost impossible for general people to afford it.
2nd GENERATION:- the greatest problem of the computers was such a big size and slow processing. a revolutionary technology known as transistor was being introduced in this era. transistor replaced the vacuum tubes and it used ferrite core as memory. the size was considerably reduced but was still about(half a room). generally germanium semiconductor was used which was more reliable and faster.in this period HIGH LEVEL LANGUAGE, COBOL, FORTRAN AND ALGOL were developed. greater reliability and faster processing led to development of the OPERATING SYSTEM.

One is a links, sand dunes on the ocean and the other is parkland, wooded with no water? Augusta has been butchered by so many architects and doesn’t resemble anything which MacKenzie built.

All of the magazines normally rate CP higher than Augusta. Why?
I should have said slightly higher in the rankings, they both are in the top 10.

Create Your Online Journal and Watch Your Dreams Come True
Monday, January 14th, 2008Justin V. Cecil asked:
THE DREAM
My father and I have talked about attending the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia for years. I always thought that I would someday be able to go, but never imagined it would be so soon; and here’s how it all started.
THE LIST
It just so happens that my wife and I decided to create a list of the things we wanted to do before we die, inspired by a recent movie. So, we were dining at our favorite Thai restaurant and started making a list of all those things we wanted to do in life that were personal, not work related. Some of mine included going to the Masters, attending a symphony orchestra, going to Europe, and so much more.
Well, by the time my list was complete in that one single day, I had already recorded on paper about 30 things. I decided that I needed a safe and private place to put my list and so I recorded everything in an online journal. With this, I could make my list, make notes on the day(s) that I completed certain dreams, and even upload photos that chronicle the events of the dream come true. A private online journal was a great place to do this because I can access it from anywhere.
THE DREAMS COME TRUE
You would not believe, but within two weeks of making my list, my father called me with outstanding news. He had been given two tickets to the Sunday round at the Masters, and he wanted me to go with him. What a great weekend he and I shared at the Masters; first we played golf at different courses on Friday and Saturday, and then we attended the final round of the Masters on Sunday. It was true euphoria.
I was so amazed that the things on my list were already coming to fruition; I logged back into my journal, added some more items and looked to see what would be good to do next. So, I noticed that one stood out, which was attending a symphony orchestra. My wife and I had always wanted to go, so I just hopped right online and ordered tickets and now my wife and I can mark that off our list. We loved it, and will definitely go again.
THE POWER OF JOURNALING
Yes, you could easily keep a journal in traditional form, or write the list of things you want to do before you die on a piece of paper. However, you may lose these items, and if you really want complete privacy and anonymity, a private online journal is really the best alternative. Creating a journal, or even making a list of your dreams will not necessarily make them come true, however, by writing them down and going back to look at them often, you will be definitely be more likely to make those dreams a reality, much sooner than later. I did! Create your private online journal today!
